Life as a Maid of Honor – Part 2 – Getting the dress(es)!

filed in

Yesterday was a day I had been dreading SO. BADLY. I admit it. I hate trying on clothes. I think almost every girl does to an extent though, especially those that are hard on themselves about their looks. When my friend Christina asked me to be her MOH, I was beyond excited!! And then my brain went back to memories of having to try on bridesmaids dresses at shops while everyone around stared and judged the 3x higher number that you were given – out loud – as “your size” even though everyone knows these dresses run small. That number stings! Slaps ya in the face even though you know to expect it! For crying out loud, I watched a girl that normally was a size 0 fit perfectly in a size 8 zip-up. I’ve watched my tiniest friend get measured and told that a size 4x her normal was what she now was. Why? I have no idea. HOWEVER. Sheena at The Bride’s Choice made this situation effortless and pain-free for me (and Christina who got her gown!!!). We chose the color on a little color chart with sample fabrics to see, I chose the design I wanted, and then she measured me in like 30 seconds, pointed to a number if I wanted to see, and took my credit card. Done. Simple. SO EASY. And for Christina? I can’t talk too much about it as I don’t want to give any info away about her gorgeous gown, but she only tried on maybe 3, and Sheena knew exactly which one was her. Christina put it on, and BAM. Our search was over. It was validated again yesterday when she got back into this dress, and it was absolutely perfect. Even better than I remembered, which seriously says so much about this dress because I remember it being completely stunning! Many thanks to Sheena for making what some see as a difficult task in wedding planning a true dream.

So here’s what I learned!
When should bridesmaids order their dresses: “About 15 weeks before the event! That will allow time for the dress to get in, and get any alterations done.”

Is there anything that could throw this off?: “Yes! The Chinese New Year takes place in February, and manufacturers will not produce anything during this time. If you place an order during this time, expect up to another 4 weeks of delays.”

So to be safe, I’d suggest having your girls go about 19/20 weeks before the wedding and get it done! You don’t need any added stress on the big day, so having their dresses in early will help take care of that 🙂
