Changing Seasons

filed in

I was going to post a lovely blog from one of my sessions, but then I ran across some images I took when I first began learning the big ol DSLRs….
If you know me personally, you know that not many things make me happier than a really nice snow. I don’t know what it is about frozen potential raindrops falling from the sky, but I get pretty excited the moment I realize it is snowing. I also get extremely defensive if you bash it too. Just ask Aaron Baker.

About two years ago, I woke up the day after Christmas to my dad throwing these huge wading boots and camo jackets (that’s the only time I will wear camouflage, mind you) at me.
“Try these on!” … “But Daaaad, it is EARLY.”
He never cared about my complaining, and he’s always known what was best. “You need to hurry up and get ready so we can go out!”
You see, my dad enjoys going to the refuge, especially since it’s part of his job. We had traveled there over the summer to capture hundreds of butterflies dancing across the flowers, and here we were again. Snow had covered the ground, ducks were everywhere, we snuck over to this little cove to find otters swimming around (!!!!), but the thing that struck me the most was how CALM it all was. Everything was still- completely silent. The snow crunched beneath my boots, the cold air filled my lungs, and I felt so content with life.
Since this moment, I have waited for snow to return. We haven’t had much luck in the past, and it makes me a bit sad to think we may not have moments like this again around here. So many of us are in a hurry, wishing that summer would come back and bring the scorching heat with it. Let’s just take it one day at a time and live in the beauty that accompanies each season 🙂
