the light that shines

Watching Sue Bryce has thoroughly inspired me to do a lot of different things with my business. The first time I ever saw her online workshop, I grabbed a box of crackers and some hummus, poured a glass of wine, and sat there. I sat for hours just watching her as she moved her clients, as she showed different angles for each body type, as she attempted to pose a client 100 different ways within an hour… It just amazed me at how many options she showed me that I didn’t really know were available.

Since that first time watching her, I’ve ventured out and practiced a lot of what I’ve learned as well as adding my own flare to the mix. You see, she struck me. I believe it was because of what she stands for… because that’s something I stand for too. Her goal is to make anyone that comes to her feel as though they are beautiful, incredible, and make them realize it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks- because they are unique and so special beyond what the world may tell them.

What I do is my life. To see and hear every one of my clients talk about how much they enjoyed their session and their photos is what assures me that I am where I’m meant to be and doing what I’m meant to do. To me, giving that gift to others – images that they will cherish forever- that is worth more than I can express. I have passion for what I do, and I know that propels me to keep going and work harder to become better.

But then I saw Sue’s video link posted all over Facebook. It has been flooding the photography world as thousands come together and stop. In the first 24 hours of this video going live, it had over 50,000 views.

As I sat in the dark watching this at 1am, I lost it.  Never have I seen something that affected me in such a way… I mean, honestly, I was speechless. When I had hit play, I had no idea what kind of impact my life was about to get.

“…Women all over the world who are going through this -We want to make sure they’re feeling supported, and comfortable, and beautiful while they’re going through this- while we’re trying to find a cure, and that’s why we’re here, and that’s why Jill is telling this story.”

This. This is exactly what I want to be a part of.

“If we can show everybody through her how to just be so beautiful with those scars out… then anybody could pretty much find anything in themselves after seeing something so beautiful.”

I want to do something with my life that leaves such a great impact on the world and the lives of so many. My personality is giving- the gift I get back is that accomplishment of helping others see the beauty they have always carried regardless if they’ve ever recognized it before. It’s what I stand for.
