One of the most cherished times of the year in DC is the cherry blossom festival. It’s when hundreds of thousands of tiny pink flowers emerge on the planted trees around the area, and it is absolutely stunning! And covered with tourists! For photographers, I’ll share some tips in just a moment with how I captured their images without having several hundred people around!
When we arrived and started our cherry blossom engagement session, we were greeted with a sweet wind that made it look like it was snowing around these love birds!
It was one of the many magical moments that filled our day. When Alex and Tim met, they had no idea that their friendship would turn into one of the most beautiful relationships – full of love, laughter, and sweetness. It radiates from them in every way, and is easily captured. This is only the first part of three to their gorgeous engagement session, so get ready!
For Photographers: When I say people were everywhere, I mean they were E.V.E.R.Y.W.H.E.R.E. So how does it appear that these two were alone in this gorgeous location? Angles and low f stops. A low f stop will obviously give you more bokeh, which in turn suddenly makes the focus about my clients, and NOT the hundreds of tourists behind them. I shot with a 100mm 2.8L for the most part. It also took lots of patience – waiting for just the right moments when we had a chance to get a wider angle without anyone to the side, but you can always shoot when you use the clients to block those distractions. You can also angle higher (but stay away from up-the-nose shots) than ground level to ensure that you miss out on those walking by as well.
