A little dip into Fashion Photography | Tyra, you know you want a session | NYC Fashion Week

Growing up, I remember being SO. DIFFERENT. from everyone else around me. When I got into high school, America’s Next Top Model started up, and I watched every single episode. My mom had one day mentioned I could redo my room, so I went to the home improvement store, bought a TON of shiny red paint (no really… I accidentally got the high gloss finish because it sounded good), and then also covered my newly red room with black and white prints of some of the most iconic fashion models in our history. I had a dream of one day being a fashion photographer (this was WAY before I even thought being a photographer was a possibility), so I tried to at least live the dream in my bedroom. Growing up in a tiny little town with only a Walmart didn’t help me get anywhere, but you better believe that the moment I got into Charlotte, I made some changes. I was introduced to Victoria’s Secret, Kate Spade, The Limited, Banana Republic, Express, etc. All these styles I’d never had access to were suddenly available to me, and I was in LOVE. I continued watching ANTM when I could, loved on Isaac Mizrahi and his show when I’d visit home, and still dreamed that one day I’d get to try my hand at fashion photography.

And then New York happened. Last Wednesday, I made the trip from California to the Big Apple to visit some friends from across the pond, and we’d made plans to walk around and get photos while in the city on Thursday. Nick and Kyle mentioned to me that there was a spot they wanted to show me. I began FREAKING out when I saw it because it was THE spot I have been searching for for over TWO YEARS. Nobody could ever tell me where this place was, and I was sad to think I’d never know. And then we walked down to it, and inside was this stunning model. She smiled at me, and it was like an invitation to start photographing the mess out of her. So I did. For seven minutes. And it was fantastic.

And now I know I MUST – absolutely must – photograph Tyra Banks. It will happen. Tyra, holla at ya girl.
