Traveling to Christie and Alex’s destination wedding in the smoky mountains made my heart do flips, especially when I saw all their DIY details they used! I absolutely love destination weddings, especially those nestled in the heart of the mountains during the fall when all the leaves are just about to change and there’s a crisp mountain air breeze. Nothing beats that!
Funny story: The day of their wedding, I headed up the rocky little mountain path because the GPS informed me that’s what I was supposed to do. And then I found myself face to face with an open field. Thank you, GPS. Spot on as always! I began backtracking, and attempted to send out a call for help to Christie only neither of us had good service, so you can imagine my panic as I began thinking I’d miss everything. I absolutely HATE being late, but I did not foresee this obstacle of getting lost without any service and no idea of where to go. Thankfully the phone call lasted long enough for her to tell me to turn around and look for a sign. I began up the path to this house…. and then my car spun out the moment I hit gravel. The higher I went up, the more my car hated me. I was fearing my life (no exaggeration) halfway up, but persevered on! I had ONE turn left, but my car just refused to go up any higher. I would give it gas and go absolutely nowhere. I felt anxiety hit more as soon as I realized my car was smelling of smoke and burning rubber, and I just finally had to stop and call Christie for help (well, attempt lol…) – the conversation went like this:
“Casey? Are you okay?”
“I’M STUCK!!!!!!!!!!!”
“I know! We have been watching you try to get up this hill for awhile now, and wondered if you’d make it!”
Hahahahahah- Clearly I did not! The whole family came out and helped push and shove my car up that hill, and I was beyond thankful for their help!!
When we got settled in this beautiful cabin, I took a moment to go out on the back porch where it overlooked mountains rolled over other mountains. Absolutely breath-taking. Christie’s mom joined me, and asked if I’d like to go on a little walk around so she could show me what they’ve seen. We hiked a little trail out behind the house, and then she showed me where the cutest little bridge was! LOVE. We headed back inside where Alex’s mother was hard at work creating the cutest DIY projects for this wedding. They did absolutely everything themselves – from decorating, to making the cake, to even making the boutonniere and bouquet! These guys have skill and tons of creativity for sure!
One of the most unique parts about this wedding though was watching as Alex and Christie got ready beside each other 🙂 While Christie was curling her hair, Alex was shaving. Christie’s mom said something that I absolutely loved too: “You know, some people say that seeing each other before the wedding is bad luck… but marriage isn’t about luck at all. It’s about love, faith, and commitment.” 🙂
The wedding ceremony was absolutely wonderful! These two could not stop smiling at each other, and their first kiss was followed by the most loving embrace as everyone cheered! I took them down the path that we’d explored a bit earlier, and the lighting was so perfect. The trees, the sun beams, the cute wooden bridge… everything was so right!
Thanks for stopping by! xoxo, casey
